WHY REPRESENTATION MATTERS Special Edition

Representation is a complex topic that is now rightly discussed a lot on a scientific and socio-political level. Separate from this, representation also has a very subjective, personal meaning for each of us.

As Black women, we all continue to face being talked about and judged in our everyday lives while our voices and perspectives remain unheard. This is not only painful and exhausting, but also has a strong negative impact on essential issues such as our own sense of self-worth, our chances of self-realization and, last but not least, our feeling of safety in predominantly white spaces. 

We regularly receive moving messages that describe how good it feels to see diverse faces and stories of other black women in German-speaking countries. For us, too, it is always empowering to give space to this content at GURLZ WITH CURLZ.
